Mobile games are not dead

Updated: Jun 2, 2023

Tap Force

So a little while back I was really into mobile games, enjoying the odd game to pass the time on my journey home or to work. That's when hyper-casual really started to become a thing and microtransactions with interrupting ads getting in the way of my enjoyment of the game.

I took a little break from mobile games with nothing that interesting really coming out on the mobile apart from the uprising that was Pokemon Go and Mario Kart, I've always been on top of trying out a game I find interesting and having a few on my phone, the majority of apps I do have are probably mostly just games.

So I wanted to take a moment with this week's blog to talk about a mobile game I haven't seemed to put down or take a day where I'm not playing it for maybe just over a month now. Every night before I sleep I have to jump into the game and work towards trying to become better at it.

Overview

I'll try my best to give a little overview of what the game it but simply Tap Force is a turn-based fighting game where you have to assemble a team of fighters and take on other teams to become the best. With worlds to denominate and various fighters to choose from and level up, there is so much packed into this game it just keeps me coming back.

Fighters

Let's take a moment to talk about the fighters and the main purpose of the game, So there are 6 different types of factions that the fighters are a part of and 5 different styles of fighters from Brawler, Tank, Mage, Finisher, and Support. All with unique abilities and moves to help you build the best team.

As you level your fighters up their overall power will also go up which will add to your team's total. Fighters can also be upgraded to 4 different types from Base, Super, Ultra, and Grandmaster all with a plus type before they upgrade. But the way that you can level them up to upgrade to these forms is by combining duplicate fighters together.

All fighters are also in a rank that is based on what kind of tier they are in from D to S tier, so you want to try and collect all the best fighters so you can have a full S tier team, the max level you can get up to per each fighter is 280.

What is also really cool is at some point as you level your overall profile you will unlock the Masteries that give you a chance to upgrade the overall faction of a class of fighters increasing their Attack, Armour, Speed, and HP.

Gameplay

So let's talk about the gameplay and how much fun and addictive this game is. There are 3 different game modes to choose from the main campaign, the sewers, and the Arena. We will start with the main campaign there are 4 main worlds to unlock starting at the metro city, NInja village, Mystic Jungle, and Dusty Hills Desert.

These worlds are unlockable once you reach a certain level of completion in the metro city there are 160 total fights you need to win to unlock the next world and so on.

Each world gets harder as the battles you need to face the fighter's levels get higher so you need to match or make your own team better than that. The turn-based battle system is really cool as each fighter's abilities will be useful together depending on how you use it.

The sewers are a little different in that each battle is fighter-type specific so you need to use an all-mage team and so on as they will have a boost in combat.

The arena Is just an online battle against other players in the world and trying to have the best team to earn yourself high score points to be on the top of the leaderboard but you need to use fighter tickets to battle each time.

Stores

How do you gain credits to level up these fighters you may be asking well in Metro City where the game is based there are multiple stores that you unlock as you level up the profile that allows you to gain credits over time and what's also cool about them is that they are weapon stores so they give you a weapon that you can equip to one of your fighters to give them a little boost also.

You can upgrade these stores by collecting materials that will in turn provide you with more credits over time and EX to level up your profile.

I won't talk about the in-game stores much but they are very important so we will start off with the Recruit store, this store is probably the most important because without it you won't be getting new fighters to add to your team.

Fighters can be recruited by using capsules and orbs that are random so you could get a simple base fighter or an elite fighter. The city market is just a place you can come to purchase extra coins or Masteries scrolls and much more. The loot-o-matic store is a Gacha machine that will give you random prizes using Star coins. And then finally the Gem store is the main currency of the game you can purchase gem packs with real money to then use to help buy extra things in the game and much more.

Events + Quests

Every week there are special events that will be happening they are basically just mini-games you can have a little extra fun with from battleships where you use rockets to blow up ships and collect rewards to dino dice where you throw dice and a dino will move around a board and land on rewards.

We of course have the Daily and weekly quests that you have to complete to be rewarded with prizes from gems to coins. These quests could be something like winning 5 battles or purchasing something from the city market.

The Club

The club feature is pretty cool you can join a club or make your own and work as a team to complete monthly quests and get huge rewards. Events like the Mech Hunt where you fight giant mech dinosaurs and have to defeat as many as you can as a team taking downs its health until it gets destroyed and you or someone in your club finds another.

I got so into the game that I decided to make my own club and have 20 people in my team all working together to get the top score, it's pretty fun to chat with them in the chat and hype each other up.

What fighting style do you like the most?

  • Tank

  • Mage

  • Brawler

  • Support

Ending

Overall this game is super addicting and I'm having so much fun with it, I definitely recommend you try it out if you are looking for your next mobile game to put some time into.

Thank you again for reading my blog and if you got this far, I'm really enjoying writing these weekly blogs

P.S If you do get the game join my Clan - HIDDENLEAF

My rating for Tap Force is 8/10
