Something About a Cult

Cult Of The Lamb

I was struggling with what to write about this week as I had a few ideas but didn't really know how to start them but I knew I really wanted to talk about this incredible game called Cult of the Lamb.

This isn't much of a review of the game but more of an appreciation of what it has brought to the table and how much it has elevated my gaming experience.

Now I did initially play this game at launch when I attended the WASD event in London and fell in love with the game right away it got me hyped to jump into the cute but deadly art style, and more recently I've been getting into roguelike games a lot so this was definitely up my alley. But honestly, I had some trouble with the game at first with its uphill learning curve, which we will get into later. I actually dropped the game close to the end with the obvious intention to finally try and beat the final boss and complete it.

The Lamb

Trying my best to write a small overview of the game and to even try and convince you to go and get the amazing game yourself, Cult of the Lamb is a game where you play as a little lamb that has the opportunity to start your own cult and going on a search for new woodland members on your crusades in diverse and mysterious areas that lead to you having to fight a false prophet that rules each part.

I probably didn't write that well enough to sell the game to anyone but what makes the game so amazing is that is not just a roguelike but it has so many other elements and mechanics.

Base Building

One of the main things you have to do and what you probably spend most of your time on in the game is building up your cult and following, the way to go about doing that is having to collect various materials to help build certain buildings to get your cult to work for you. But the more you level up and grow your cult the better the options of building you unlock that will eventually also help you on your crusades and fight to beat the game. I could talk about each individual element of the buildings but ill leave that for you to find out.

The Cult

The way you build your cult up is by going on crusades where you will find them moments before sacrifice or being held captive and you can free them and bring them back to your cult. When they arrive at your cult you have the option to change their name and choose from a variety of characteristics on how you want them to look. Once you are done you then have to give them a job role on what to work on around the base of your cult.

There are a few jobs but the one I wanted to talk about is the praying job, and probably the most important role of a cult member as with

out the members praying for their leader you won't be able to absorb their devotion and upgrade your camp.

Good and Evil

Something that relates to my previous blog last week is throughout the game as you level up your cult there are various rules you can put in place and rituals to choose from, that are either good or evil ways to rule your cult. This is all done in the Lamb's church where every day you can perform a sermon where your members will devote themselves to you and with that you can choose how you want to rule them. Giving one example you can choose if you want your cult to be cannibals and eat fellow members' meat when they die or not.

This also adds to the replayability of the game if you wanted to try it out again when you beat it and rule your cult differently the next time.

Crusades

The combat in this game is incredible with various weapons to use and special abilities you can get there is a lot packed in this game and it all just works so perfectly. Throughout the game, you will be unlocking these tarot cards and on them will be additional benefits that will help you through your run for example additional attack speed or the chance to inflight poison damage to enemies giving you just that little extra edge along the way but you only get up to 4 of these cards along each run.

Let's talk about the creatures that you will be fighting along the way there are a lot of different ones that do all kinds of moves that you will learn how they attack and what patterns to look out for in each room. My least favorite enemy is the small blue bat that charges up and flies at you every 5 seconds and when you have a lot of them in one room there isn't much place to go so you have to be skilled at dodging the attacks.

There are a lot of weapons and as you move between each floor you choose a path to follow and your weapons get stronger from a sword to a dagger but my favorite to use is the axe as it has a good balance between not being too fast to attack and the damage is perfect for doing more wide AOE damage.

Ending

Having completed the game once taking me 115 in-game days to complete with a total of 44 cult member deaths and doing a good run, With the game still pumping out updates and more DLC I'm still enjoying the game and starting a whole new cult this time going evil haha

I 100% recommend anyone to pick up this game you will have a blast with the cute art style and progression on how cool you can make your cult look it ticks all the boxes for anyone to play.

I seem to like to purpose a question at the end of my blogs so I might keep this as a thing or not let me know in the comments but, the question for this week is if you were to have a cult or have played cult of the lamb what cult would you grow?

What cult would you grow?

  • Good

  • Evil

Closing

Thanks a lot for reading through if you got this far, I'm still working out how I would like to structure these blog posts but if you have any topic you would like me to talk about follow me on my socials or leave a comment on this post.

I had fun writing this review!
